Do not allow rocks to provide a ramp for an agressive dino to hop your fence.

A 3 high will even stop a rex unless he is persistent.Ħ. Even a 1 or 2 high fence keeps out most dinos. (hint, don't build at the bottom of a cliff. then you only need to protect 2 or 3 sides. To reduce the amount of resources you need, use the terrain to your advantage. You will find a better spot later and WANT to move.Ĥ. You most likely will not be staying at your present location. You can always expand, or move, later as you get more dinos.ģ. Trikes get wood and berries and can carry it back to base for you.Ģ. A trike is a good tame after a few dilos. Wood gets much cheaper after you tame a harvesting dino. Originally posted by lukephillips56:true but what do you recomend for the walls like im lvl 10 but wooden ones are expensive kinda 1. Often you'll see your birds 100's of feet in the air with no way to get them unless you have another flier. On a side note this is also something I'd recommend to do with fliers if you don't have an enclosed pen for them because otherwise they will fly off, kill something, and stay there. If lured too far away from the dino they are following they will return. This ensures that they will defend themselves without running away. The trick is to enclose one mountable dino inside of an enclosed area so that it is unable to get out, set it to passive then hop onto it and hit J making sure that all of the dino's you would like on aggressive are now following said dino. Though there is a way to keep your dino's on aggressive while making sure they don't run off.

I was mostly teasing about the roaming free bit. It will take longer than fence foundations and a gate though, especially if you want to enclose the entire pen with a roof.īut a 4-5 high fence with fence foundations and a gate will serve you just as well, just not against aerial attacks. Pretty much this, except for letting them roam free, that's a good way to get them killed in some areas.Īs Kerher says, #2 is the better option if you are on a flat enough area to build the pen on and have enough resources to do it. If you're on PvE then I say let them suckers roam free. I'm on my own private server in a good area and thus have zero safety issues (currently) from wild dino or player attacks.Originally posted by Kerher:You have two options (sort of) currently.ġ) Use fence foundations to create an enclosed perimeter.Ģ) Use foundations/pillars to make a flat area and enclose it, meaning walls and ceiling.īoth options use dino gates of either size (normal/behemoth) but #2 is safer than #1, if you're on PvP that is. (because I kinda suck at being creative like that).

I haven't experimented much with this technique and don't know if there are other options. This is definitely ugly!ĭoes anyone have any other ideas to allow the dino's to enter such a pen? I suppose the only option really is to put in a dino gate? These are just so huge and unslightly and don't seem to fit in well with low fencerails/posts. And then realized that my pteranadon couldn't lift my tamed Phiomia :PĬurrently, I have been forced to leave one foundation in place, so that I could attach a ramp on the outside of the pen (demolishing the foundation removes the ramp too) to be able to get them inside the pen. I have built a larger pen for my Phiomia's, using the same techniques. Which is kinda fun, because now I just catch them wild, drop them in the pen and tame them from there :P I solved getting Dodo's into the empty pen by simply flying them in via pteranadon. It is not possible to take out a fence post and then put one back in, as the foundation won't line up (snap?) to the rest of the structure. Anyone who has tried this knows that you have to create the entire pen in one move. I have made a Dodo pen using fenceposts (by using the thatch foundation + fence foundation on top of that - demolish foundation). The only real problem I had in the beginning was, there was no entry point for the Dodo's once the fenceposts were done. Need a few tips & ideas for dino pens I'm slowly building up my ranch/farm whatever it is turning into. Only problem is, I can't allow the Dodo's to wander :/ One of them always manages to find a way out. I'm slowly building up my ranch/farm whatever it is turning into.
